When Should You Call a Designer?
Written by: Jean Conti Speckmann

All too often people consult an Interior Designer after their home is built or a remodeling project is completed. Too late: good planning starts at the beginning. Preparation leads to a positive result. Initial decisions are the most critical and most expensive to change after installed if you’re not happy. Experienced designers can save you time, worry, and in many cases, money. They can make a huge difference in the outcome of your home.

If you’re selling a home, is it better to hire a professional stager, or can the homeowner do it?

Because it’s a buyer’s market at this time, it’s very important to have your home appeal to buyers. What a homeowner thinks about their personal items is NOT how prospective buyers may see it. It’s a first impression, and you know how that goes: You don’t get a second chance to make a first impression. It may be worth just a few hours of consultation, and then make sure you follow through.

Does granite have dangerous levels of radon?

According to the Marble Institute of America, several studies conducted through the years have found that it is extremely unlikely your granite countertops are emitting harmful levels of radon. If it makes you feel better, you could have your overall air quality tested by a reputable radon testing organization.

I’ve heard color can change a person’s mood. Is this true?

Absolutely true. However, some people are more sensitive than others to color. For example, have you ever felt fidgety or restless for no apparent reason? It could be the surroundings. There are certain colors that are calming and tranquil, some promote anxiety, others energy. That’s why its so important to have the right colors in your home, doctor’s office, and hospital rooms, to name a few.
