Maintaining Your Professional Cut At Home
After completing a great cut and style, I have continually heard my clients say, “My hair will never look like this again!” Every stylist wants his or her work to look beautiful until the client’s next visit, but so often the client cannot attain that professional salon look. I have talked to all of the Bellezza Stylists about this dilemma and what each of them sees as obstacles to their clients maintaining their hairstyles everyday.

Here are some solutions to the challenges we see in the salon:

Carol Bongiovanni, stylist, Bellezza at Caesars: A great look needs to begin with a professional haircut! The cut needs to be maintained every 4 to 6 weeks and you also need to use a good dryer, flat iron and brushes. I use a T3 dryer, a GHD flat iron and BioIonic brushes because they all work together to give the most beautiful and shiny result to the hair. Two of my favorite products are Bed Head Uptight used with TIGI Root Boost for terrific body and long-lasting hold.

Zoe Chin, stylist, Bellezza at Bally’s: Clients often try to start styling their hair when it is too wet, so that by the time the hair is near dry their arms are exhausted and they give up. I recommend to shampoo and condition the hair, blot excess water, apply styling product, then diffuse your hair to still damp. Section damp hair, and then use your round brush and dryer with the nozzle attachment. I love REDKEN Hardwear and Forceful Spray to give styles a spontaneous fun look.

Liset Duclut (aka Lola), stylist Bellezza at Caesars: Clients have difficulty getting body and lift where they want it and therefore do not get the best effect of their haircut. I do not ask the client what is the cut that they want but what is the look and style they want to portray. I show them exactly where to apply a product like TIGI Root Boost and how to use the round brush and dryer together to attain the fullness, lift and therefore the desired look. You need to take the time to get the result.

Lisa Hillesheim, stylist, Bellezza at Caesars: Clients have difficulty making hair smooth without being full. I show them how to use the brush first underneath the hair to get the smoothness then the brush on top to take away the fullness at the root. Having fullness on the sides, right over the ear gives a very dated look. I love to use Pureology’s Shine Max cocktailed with Styling Lotion to give long wavy hair a full yet very smooth glamorous look.

Leah Kuchinsky, stylist, Bellezza at Caesars: Clients have the most difficulty using the brush and dryer together. Also, so often the client is using the wrong size brush with the wrong kind of bristle for their texture and style. I recommend the appropriate brush and instruct them to section the hair using butterfly clips. By drying the hair section by section, you can get the lift where you want it and the hair is dried more efficiently. Bed Head’s Masterpiece is my favorite spray to give it long-lasting fullness.

Chet Reynolds, stylist Bellezza at Bally’s: My clients seem to have the most problem with the crown of their hair and the back. I instruct them to how to work with a cowlick by using a round brush and the dryer or a curling iron. So often, I see hair that looks great in the front but looks unfinished in the back. Drying the perimeter of the hair first – bangs, nape, over the ears then work up to the crown. Also, less is best with product, always emulsify the product between yours hands then apply to your hair. I love REDKEN Glass to make hair smooth, REDKEN Body Full Volumizing Foam to give lift at the roots and REDKEN Clean Lift Gel for shorter less structured styles.
