In today’s world people are living longer and are more educated on their health and health issues. While we are extending our years, we are trying to make them as active and comfortable as possible. Common ailments of aging include: arthritis, fatigue, joint stiffness, wrinkles and loss of skin turgor; to name a few. In order to halt or slow these processes, people have turned to traditional and holistic medicine: treatments that are simple and can be done in our homes.
In my venture to offer services to enhance ones quality of life, I came across a fascinating treatment used for chronic pain sufferers. It is Hungarian Wellness Mud. This mud has been used for medicinal treatments for over a century. Hungarian Wellness Mud comes from an area in Hungary called, Kolopfurdo. There once was a large medicinal spa there, before World War II. Unfortunately, due to heavy bombing in that area, only one stone bath remains.
In 1898, a physician in Budapest, found the mud to contain therapeutic quantities of iron and minerals. Since then, the mud was carefully and selectively excavated. These same excavating techniques are still used today!
By 1930 a Budapest, medicinal, spa decided to perform a study (with its’ clients) using Hungarian Mud treatments. During this ten year study, it was documented that the mud had significant healing properties. In 1938 the Ministry of Health qualified Hungarian Wellness Mud as “curative” and authorized it’s trading as a medicinal mud. It is widely used by the Hungarian Health Service, even today.
The mud works in three distinct manners. First, the minerals absorbed, assist blood vessels in flushing out toxins built up in body tissue. The detoxified areas are then supplied with the minerals from the mud. Hungarian Wellness Mud has properties such as ferrous oxide, manganese oxide, calcium oxide, magnesium oxide, sodium oxide, potassium oxide, aluminum oxide, titanium dioxide… and more! Minerals have positive and negative ions which cause necessary chemical reactions that are vital to nerve conduction and contraction of muscle fibers. Minerals, also have a major influence on fluid balance (retention/regulation), enzyme reactions and acid base balance.
Second, the mud contains silicon dioxide, which gives it thermal qualities. The mud can be heated to cause better circulation and promote healing. It can, also, be cooled to reduce swelling.
Last, the Hungarian Wellness Mud works by its own weight. The mud is used with a thick application which helps stimulate penetration and circulation. The treatments are comfortable and relaxing.
