Today’s lifestyle has created many new alternatives to the sedentary vacations of lying endlessly by the pool or beach. Don’t get me wrong - there are times we need a “do-nothing” vacation - but there are other times many of us have the urge to enrich our lives, accomplish personal goals and achieve a healthy lifestyle. The most popular choices range from cruises to resort spas to spa destinations. Within each category there are selections for every budget with moderate to first class to deluxe facilities. You would be amazed at how many opportunities are available to keep fit while enjoying your vacation. Many cruise lines offer wonderful spa facilities and special “theme” cruises featuring health seminars and activities with renowned speakers and instructors. Celebrity Cruise Lines new ship “Solstice”, which debuts with her inaugural voyage in December of 2008, offers special spa accommodations located close to a huge magnificent spa with a specialty restaurant featuring a healthy dinner venue. Another prime example of a spa on board a cruise liner is the presence of the famous Canyon Ranch Spa aboard Cunard’s Queen Mary II. The Spa encompasses 20,000 square feet of luxurious facilities.

You can cruise the many exciting ports of the world and be surrounded by a healthy and active environment. With such a tremendous variety of selections, Preferred Travel would like to assist you with your plans and the information you need to pick the right choice for your needs.

Resort Spas offer facilities on site where you can enjoy the ambience of a resort, be pampered with a myriad of spa treatments and perhaps an occasional exercise class. Many Resort Spas have golf courses or ski facilities. The Phoenix- Scottsdale, Arizona area and Palm Springs in California host many wonderful choices in the wonderful desert environment. The Ritz Carlton at Batchelor’s Gulph in Beaver Creek, Colorado is an extremely popular destination for the winter ski crowd. Malliouhana located on the beautiful beach of Anguilla in the British West Indies has a wonderful spa facility overlooking the Caribbean.

A Destination Spa takes the healthy lifestyle to a higher level with its primary focus designed to educate, motivate and empower you in your pursuit of enhanced health. Many destination spas may have specific specialties such as weight loss, while many others offer a wide variety of mind-body enrichment programs. Special “theme” weeks are also offered throughout the year. The choices and locations are boundless.

One of our personal favorites is the Red Mountain Spa located in St. George, Utah. The setting amongst the magnificent red rock creates a peaceful aura that one must experience to believe. Early morning hikes geared for beginner, intermediate and advanced levels are offered daily on many different and varied trails. Exercise classes abound as well as seminars and workshops. Cooking classes are very popular. There is something for everyone - you can go for a hike in the morning - take a class or attend a seminar or two in the afternoon - or luxuriate at their World Class Spa “Sagestone”. Breakfast and lunch are offered buffet style. Dinner is a sit down affair with wine and beer available. The abundant array of healthy and delicious choices is mind-boggling. With all the activities, one can shed a few pounds while eating to their hearts content!! The proximity of Red Mountain Spa to Zion and Bryce National Parks make day tours an enjoyable option.

Red Mountain Spa has no age boundaries. With our fifth annual vacation to Red Mountain Spa scheduled for Oct. 12-18, 2008, we will once again be comprised of a group varying in age from 20 to 75. Our list, as in the past, will include mothers and daughters, aunts and nieces, sisters, husbands and wives, friends from all walks of lives from areas throughout the United States. Finding their way to Red Mountain Spa, they renew the spirit of family and friends in this relaxed atmosphere. The growth of this group, with the addition of another family member or friend each year, attests to the camaraderie of the group and the attention to detail by the staff of Red Mountain Spa.

Perhaps now is the time to take an opportunity for you to do something positive for yourself.
