It was January 1986, wintery and cold outside. Me, a former secretary, now a stay at home mom with 3 children, dreamed of a warm, inviting place I could escape to. Where I could forget about household chores and the winter “blues”. Where brilliant colors, textures, and fibers would inspire my languishing creativity. Being an avid knitter, Fiber Arts the Yarn Shop was the idea, and soon, the reality.

Now 20 years later, I never dreamed that the “little Yarn Shop at home” would become my passion and career. I still feel the burning desire to create the welcoming, nurturing atmosphere for the Career Woman, or the Stay-at-Home Mom. Women of all ages and backgrounds come to purchase yarns and share their love of yarn and fiber. I’ve made many new friends, and taught them to knit or crochet. For experienced knitters, there are always new skills and techniques to accomplish. There’s even a Master Knitting correspondence course to obtain your Knitting Degree. All of our new knitting friends bring warmth and joy and exciting ideas to our shops. It’s a reciprocal arrangement.

It’s not your grandmothers knitting anymore! The New Age of Knitting is relaxing, rewarding, and hip. The repetitive motion produces Alpha Brain Waves so desirable for tension release and calming. At the same time, we’re creating exciting and fashionable items, for ourselves, our children, family members, even our pets! If you’d like to experience the world of yarn and knitting, or already love the fiber arts, we welcome you to our fold, and invite you to stop by and meet our eclectic group of “Yarn Advisors”. See if you can determine who’s the RN, Marine, Special Ed Teacher, or Hair Stylist. We’ve all been brought together with our mutual love of yarn and the fiber arts. We look forward to sharing and caring what you’re knitting, or planning to knit.

Fiber Arts is open every day and Sundays (football widows rejoice!). Contact us at Fiber Arts Cape May (609) 898-8080 or Fiber Arts Northfield, (609) 641-8878. Call us or visit www.yarnsRus.net for more information on services, specific
hours at each shop, and shop addresses. Spring 2008, look for our weekend Knitting Retreat on the Beach in Cape May. Summer 2008, Spinning and Weaving will be added to our list of fiber arts. Hope to see you soon, and Happy Knitting
